Absurdity is easy. Keeping it funny all the way through takes real comic skill.
Incursion has it in spades. The writing is so sharp, and the cast deliver it like comedy veterans: every ridiculous turn feels perfectly judged, so the premise keeps escalating without the jokes ever feeling tired.
Even before the show starts, the classroom feels real: kids left loosely supervised while a teacher tries to be the cool one. That familiar chaos gives the writers plenty to play with, and they make the most of it.
Actors Pulse is used brilliantly. We’re right there in the classroom, and the audience participation is pitched perfectly: it keeps us involved and the energy buzzing without interrupting the show’s momentum.
The writers’ note talks about the absurdity of school culture and authority. You can feel that underneath the comedy, but this show’s great pleasure is watching the cast make such clever, ridiculous writing land so consistently.
I loved this. Easily my favourite show of Fringe. This show NEEDS an indie run!
