There’s something ridiculously exciting about seeing an idea before it becomes the thing.
A voice note before it becomes a song. A musical while it’s still being built. Songs from shows we might not see on a stage for years. Conversations about what it actually means to build a life as a creator.
The Hayes Festival of New Work has been such a brilliant reminder that Australian theatre isn’t just what’s playing on our stages right now. There is an enormous amount of talent, experimentation and creativity happening behind the scenes, creating what we’ll be watching next.
And huge credit to Hayes for making space for it.
New Australian work needs somewhere to begin — and audiences deserve the chance to see that beginning.
More of this, please.
